Dear Indian Students

This is a letter to my younger self, and to anyone who's stuck in the loop of wanting more but settling for less.

The Comfort Trap

We grow up in a system that rewards compliance. Follow the syllabus. Get good marks. Get a degree. Get a job. And somewhere along the way, we forget to ask: "Is this what I actually want?"

The answer, for most of us, is no. But we keep going because the alternative feels scary.

What Changed for Me

I started building things. Not for grades, not for placements — just because I was curious. A side project here, an open-source contribution there. Each one taught me more than a semester of lectures.

The key insight was simple: the gap between average and extraordinary isn't talent. It's initiative.

The Initiative Gap

Here's what I've noticed about the people who break out:

  • They start before they're ready
  • They share their work publicly (even when it's rough)
  • They learn by doing, not by consuming
  • They ask "what if?" instead of "what's safe?"

A Simple Framework

If you're reading this and feeling stuck, here's what I'd suggest:

  1. Pick one thing you're genuinely curious about
  2. Build something small with it — in a weekend
  3. Ship it — put it on GitHub, write about it, share it
  4. Repeat — every month

That's it. No masterclass. No paid course. Just consistent, deliberate creation.

The Real Flex

The real flex isn't your CGPA or your placement package. It's being able to point at something and say: "I built that. From scratch. Because I wanted to."

That's the energy. That's the difference.

Go build something. Right now. Not tomorrow. Now.
